Academic Student Orientation
28
AUGUST, 2018
The second day of Academic Student Orientation week, Head of Education and Student Services, Terri Douglas led a lesson with the whole student body about the steps students can use for growth in the intellectual, emotional, physical and behavioral domains of their lives.
Students brainstormed first in small advisement groups and then offered their ideas which were collected on a whiteboard, with the help of Tyler as scribe. The “ready, do, done” executive functioning model was used.

Terri also taught the growth mindset principle that to learn and grow; we will go through failure. She noted we weren’t able to ride bikes immediately but fell several times. Terri taught the “I failed” bow learned at the “Yes And” improvisation seminar this summer.
Andrew stood before the group and gave us a quote from Will Smith: “Fail early, fail often, fail forward.”
Henry summarized his take on it that failure builds character.
